Die ÖDP setzt im Europawahlkampf auf das Thema neue Gentechnik und kritisiert mehrere CSU-Abgeordnete. Nun hat die Ökopartei eine Petition gestartet.

Nutzpflanzen sollen ertragreich sein, aber auch widerstandsfähig. Weil Mais und Weizen durch den Klimawandel an Grenzen gelangen, sind andere Arten gefragt: Chia z.B. Eine exotische Pflanze – mit Vorteilen für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft. Sie wird neuerdings auch in Deutschland angebaut.

Von den in Deutschland geernteten Sojabohnen wird nur ein relativ kleiner Anteil, nämlich 10 %, als Nahrungsmittel verwendet. Bei Trockenerbsen beträgt dieser Anteil dagegen rund ein Viertel, jedoch bei Lupinen nur 7,5 % und bei Ackerbohnen lediglich 5 %.

Das EU-Parlament lehnt Patente auf neue Züchtungstechniken jedoch ab. Endgültige Beschlüsse sind auf EU-Ebene erst nach der Europawahl 2024 zu erwarten.
